Studies on Periodic Acid - Schiff Reactive Material in White Blood Cells of Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

|
PAS staining of the peripheral blood smears were done in 10 cases of diabetes mellitus and 10 college students as the control group. The following results were obtained.
1. All of the neutrophils were PAS-positive, but each cells showed a difference in the content of PAS-positive material. The two type of PAS-positive and PAS-negative lymphocyte were found. All of the monocyte and cosinophils were PAS-positive, but the content of PAS-positive material in these cells was decreased.
2. The number of segmented neutrophil which contained much PAS-positive material was increased, when compared with the band form of neutrophil.
3. In patients with diabetes mellitus the number of neutrophil which contained much PAS-positive material was increased, compared with though healthy students.
